Reedsport sits at the mouth of the Umpqua River, inside the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, one of the largest expanses of coastal sand dunes in North America. Winchester Bay, a few minutes downriver, is the working port where people come to fish, crab and ride.
Winchester Bay has direct access to the Umpqua Dunes, with ATV and sand-rail rental shops in town for riders of every level.
Salmon Harbor Marina is one of the coast’s busiest sport-fishing ports. Charters run for salmon, tuna, lingcod, halibut and crab.
Dungeness crabbing off the docks and in the bay is a local rite. Crabbing and clamming are popular on the beach too.
The 65-foot Umpqua River Lighthouse has a small museum, and Lake Marie in Umpqua Lighthouse State Park is just south.
The Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area, a short drive east of Reedsport, is home to a herd of Roosevelt elk.
The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area district office is in Reedsport. Check current conditions and rules before you head out.
Sandy boots, salty hair and fishing stories welcome. We’re downtown on Fir Avenue.
